Fairies, nymphs and princesses sashayed down the catwalk when hair and beauty students from Great Yarmouth College showed off their skills.

The students went head to head against the clock to create stunning and exotic styles for the runway, as part of the college's annual hair and beauty competition.

The artistic learners wowed judges with their colourful characters, which included an Oompa Loompa, Indian princess, ice queen, woodland fairy and queen of hearts.

Family and friends also gathered in the King's Centre to watch the models as they strutted down the catwalk.

Val Thacker, learning manager for hair and beauty at the college, said the standard was high – as it was every year.

'We have a lot of talent here and it is gratifying to see it recognised by our judges,' she added. 'We look forward to this event every year and we couldn't do it without the support of our sponsors and partner employers.'

Judging the flamboyant hairstyles were Nikki Rivett, owner of Bojangles at Ormesby, Tracey Baverstock, a tutor for teaching and learning at the college and a former hairdressing tutor at City College Norwich, and Lindsey Yusuf, owner of Saks, Great Yarmouth.

And casting an expert eye over the beauty students' handiwork was Amber Scholes, a former beauty student at the college and a highly commended finalist at the World Skills 2013 who now works at Aphrodite at Potters Leisure Resort, Louise Smith, owner of Utopia in Norwich and Lindy Miller, a former college student, World Skills semi-finalist 2013 and freelance beauty therapist.
