Norfolk schools went head-to-head in a battle of book knowledge at City of Norwich School this evening.

Teams of 11 to 13-year-olds from schools in Norfolk and Suffolk were competing in the regional heat of a children’s literature quiz.

The Kids’ Lit Quiz, now in its tenth year, aims to improve literacy among secondary school pupils by encouraging them to read more.

Of the 25 teams from the 16 schools which took part, Thetford Grammar School emerged victorious.

Second place was taken by Thorpe St Andrew High School while Sheringham High School was in third.

Pupils were asked 10 questions in 10 different rounds on literature including myths and legends, comic strips as well as classic and contemporary books.

The winners will of the regional heat will now go on to compete in the national final in Coventry on December 6.

And the UK winners will represent the country in the world finals in Durban in South Africa in July 2013.

The heat was organised by Norfolk County Council’s School Library Service.

Helena Last from the service said: “It was very successful and we felt that all the children displayed some fantastic literary knowledge.”
