Grants boost for two Norwich music projects for young people

Two Norwich music projects are celebrating a financial boost from the National Foundation for Youth Music.
Chance to audition for young musicians programme
Young people interested in taking part in The Garage’s Musicians Development Programme can take part in auditions next month.
The programme aims to give young people with music-making skills such as playing an instrument, singing or being part of a band, the chance to find out more about the music industry through taster sessions, tutorials and coaching, master classes with industry professionals and plenty of opportunities to perform.

Youth performing arts venue The Garage has been given a £100,000 Youth Music grant to run a two-year Young Musicians Development Programme while Future Projects has been awarded a £93,000 grant for a music project for under-fives.
The Garage’s programme will give eight to 18-year-olds the chance to take part in a range of activities and gain a realistic insight into the music industry.
Carrie Mansfield, from The Garage, said: “This funding will enable us to support talented young musicians across our programme. As well as developing their creative talents, participants will learn how to cope with the pressures of performing at high-profile events.”
Future Projects’ Early Ears project will use cutting-edge music technology and community music therapy to improve the musical and personal development of under-fives in challenging circumstances. The impact of this work will be evaluated and the results shared with other music practitioners nationally.
Daniel Childerhouse, from Future Projects, said: “We recognised that, now more than ever, modern technology is integral to the development of young children and we are incredibly excited to receive this funding to further explore how that technology, can be used to help develop vital skills in young children which may help them to overcome their challenging circumstances.”
