Parents of a school at the centre of a row about it becoming an academy will next week be told how its interim governors will respond to a recent consultation on its future.

Cavell Primary in Norwich is due to become an academy sponsored by the Right for Success Trust on July 1, and a consultation on this option closed on Monday.

David Lennard Jones, chairman of the interim executive board said: “The IEB met [on Thursday] and carefully considered the responses to the consultation. It will now be producing a summary of the comments and questions and will be sharing them with parents next week. Once parents have been informed, the outcomes will be shared more widely.”

Anti-academy campaigners complained that the consultation did not included a yes-or-no question about whether parents supported the proposals, and conducted their own survey, which attracted 55 responses.

The Save Cavell group said 9pc supported the school becoming an academy, while 83pc supported it joining a co-operative trust of nearby schools, which Cavell’s previous governors had supported before they were removed by Norfolk County Council.
