There were free rides for children, face painting, a jubilee town trail and a prince and princess competition which was won by Lucas Harper, three, and five-year-old Maisie Martin.

The Jubilee celebrations in London were also screened live at the Town Hall.

Sarah Mawby, Downham Market Town Council’s events co-ordinator, said: “It’s been absolutely brilliant to see so many members of the community come out to support this event - we’ve had a lot of happy kids.

“There’s been an amazing atmosphere in the town - we’ve had so many different kinds of event and loads of different community groups have come together perfectly.”

It came after thousands lined the streets to watch the town’s annual carnival parade, snake its way from Heygates Mill to the Howdale on Monday. The town was awash with red, white and blue and many of the floats taking part in the parade were jubilee themed.

Both events were organised to coincide with the 38th Downham Market Festival which started on Sunday and will end this Sunday.
