Delia Smith has called time on her television career and said programme makers were now sacrificing education for entertainment.

The joint majority shareholder at Norwich City FC told the Daily Telegraph: “This is the future for me and the population. It’s miles ahead. If you do a TV programme now, it’s got to entertain.
“When I started, there was further education in the BBC; now you have to entertain. You have someone telling me I haven’t got time to show this or I haven’t got time to show that.”
Ms Smith said she had turned down a recent approach from the BBC which marked “the end” of “Delia on the telly”.

Her cookery books - including Delia Smith’s Complete Cookery Course and How to Cheat at Cooking - have sold more than 20 million copies worldwide.
Such is her influence that supermarket bosses talk of “the Delia effect” when sales of products featured on her shows go through the roof.
She is credited with causing a national cranberry shortage in 1995 and transformed the fortunes of a small Lancashire firm when she described their omelette pan as a “little gem”, prompting sales to leap by thousands in the space of a few months.

V-can't say I have ever followed one driving dangerously and I feel sorry for anyone who has to negotiate the junction on the A47 which the beet lorries have to use-anywhere else but Norfolk and a big roundabout would have been built when the road was dualled . It is still puzzling me how a chiller lorry jack knifed in a 30 mph limit on gritted roads in Fleggburgh the other week-and where it was going-I don't think drivers of the larger lorries now permitted have a lot of fun on our rural roads. As for Delia she is right. She may have relied heavily on her unseen recipe developer and assistant and some of her recipes may have been M&S style bland but she taught skills and techniques which enabled people to cook independently of specific recipes and to choose ingredients. Too many tv cooks just show recipes in a travelogue or style guru setting, and many of their recipes use expensive ingredients.Or they are a bunch of blokes showing grandmothers how to suck eggs-eg weekend morning TV. Simon Hopkinson and Nigel Slater are always good, but they too are also obviously victims of the ADHD type of director.The whole of the BBC is affected by this moronic gimmicky approach to programming, whether it is Countryfile babbling nonsense to convince townies they are in touch with the countryside or Silent Witness trying to be Edge of Darkess with sixth form level media studies style camera tricks.

I don't get it. She's quite entertaining after she's had a few, allegedly, per the infamous half time rant on the pitch all those years ago; unforgettable.
