Major roads in Norfolk and Suffolk will be closed for several hours today and tomorrow (Thursday) as an abnormal load passes through the counties.

Parts of a crane are being transported between Great Yarmouth and Felixstowe between 10am and 2pm today and tomorrow, travelling along the A47, A11 and A14.

This will result in the closure of the A47 Acle Straight at 10am on both days, and the A11 will be closed between Thetford and Barton Mills Fiveways roundabout at midday on both days.

Police say drivers should expect delays and traffic congestion, and avoid these routes where possible as there will be no overtaking the load.

  • I am sorry, but wouldn't the logical way to transport a crane from Gt Yarmouth to felixstowe have been by sea, both places being ports?? I know, I know, stupid to think someone in charge would have thought of that!!
