Wrestling, vintage vehicles and fireworks helped thousands of families celebrate the Diamond Jubilee in Costessey on Monday afternoon.

The annual fete and fair at the Costessey Centre on Longwater Lane was given a Royal theme with stalls and gazebos decked out in Union Jack flags and bunting.

Stallholders also came in fancy dress and red, white and blue.

Sharp showers failed to wash away the celebratory spirits as over 100 stalls, fairground rides and a beer tent kept crowds in a party mood.

Organiser Patrick O’Connor said: “The Jubilee gives it an extra dimension. There is lots of patriotic gear and it has been very successful.”

Erica Johnson, 31, who volunteers at Costessey youth club, said: “It has been very busy despite the bad weather.”

Stalls included a barbecue, ice creams, cakes and sweets, alongside plant displays, WI groups, Age UK, Guides and Brownies, and army cadets.
