A Wymondham woman who duped elderly and infirm customers into buying “therapy units”, paying up to £700 for what in fact were cheap massage mattresses, has been warned all sentencing options are open after being found guilty of two counts of fraudulent trading.

Georgina Dean, also known as Elizabeth, deceived elderly customers by claiming the mats were medically approved and could treat a number of conditions, including Parkinson’s.

Dean, 39, of Barnham Broom Road, was yesterday found guilty of two counts of knowingly being a party to and carrying on with a fraudulent business, following a trial at Norwich Crown Court.

The jury of nine women and three men reached unanimous verdicts on both counts after having been out for more than eight and a half hours.

The defendant, who wore a cream dress with floral pattern, was told by Judge Anthony Bate sentencing would be adjourned until Wednesday, July 30 for reports to be carried out and granted her bail insisted that was no indication as to sentence.

During the trial the jury heard the mats could be bought for about £30 on eBay, but she was selling them at prices ranging from £220 to £700.

Speaking after the verdict, Sophie Leney from the county council’s Trading Standards team described it as a “very good result” after a “thorough investigation” following a number of complaints about Dean.

She said: “I’m pleased the jury agreed with us that she was taking advantage of older and often vulnerable people. I’m grateful to those people who provided evidence and appeared as witnesses and this outcome is good news for them indeed.”
