Two sons, in hot water with their separate mothers, figure in the latest North Walsham crime statistics.

The sons each took and drove a car owned by their mother, without her consent, North Walsham Town Council heard on Tuesday.

One woman was still on holiday in Spain, blissfully unaware that her son was in trouble with the police. The other son drove his mother’s car into a tree, escaping injury himself, PC Charly Reed reported.

The vehicle thefts were among 48 reported crimes between October 29 and November 11 which PC Reed said was a marked improvement on last year when 64 crimes were logged over the same period.

Members of the public will have the chance to raise concerns about policing matters at a meeting in The Atrium, Spenser Avenue, North Walsham, on Wednesday December 12 at 7pm. Among members of the local force present will be Inspector Matthew Dyson.

● North Walsham’s trouble-making pigeons are on the increase once more in the town centre, town councillors heard.

James Wilson, North Norfolk District Council’s environmental protection team leader, said two building owners had been asked to pigeon-proof their properties as the council was once again beginning to receive complaints about mess. But Mr Wilson said the trial deterrent gel, placed in some parts of the town in April, had been a “huge success.”
