Suffolk serial killer Steve Wright has launched a third bid for freedom, it's been reported.

Wright, 54, who used to be the landlord at the former Ferry Boat pub in King Street, Norwich, was jailed for life after being found guilty of murdering five prostitutes in the Ipswich area over five days in December 2006.

His brother David, 53, who regularly visits Wright at Long Lartin Prison in Worcestershire, confirmed to a national newspaper he is lining up a fresh bid to overturn his conviction.

As reported, police said earlier this year that there was no evidence linking Wright, who was born in Erpingham, north Norfolk, to the murder of Norwich prostitute Michelle Bettles 10 years ago.

They reaffirmed their position on her death as Channel Five was due to screen a documentary in which criminology professor David Wilson explains why he believes Wright could be linked to unsolved killings including the murder of Michelle.

The killing of the 22-year-old, who disappeared from the city's red light district in March 2002 and whose body was found in woodland 200 yards from the A47 at Scarning, near Dereham, a few days later, was featured in Killers Behind Bars: The Untold Story on Channel Five earlier in the year.
