A safe containing £4,000 has been stolen from a village pub which was targeted by thieves for the second time.

Burglars broke into the Mill Cafe Bar and Restaurant in Yaxham at some point between 12.10am and 8.25am on Saturday, July 19.

A patio window was smashed to gain access into the Norwich Road property.

It is believed the offenders climbed over the hedge onto the venue’s decking.

A Norfolk police spokesman said the safe, an iPod and 14 bottles of spirits were stolen.

The Mill owner Hugo Stevenson, who took over the business nearly three years ago, said it was the second time they have been broken into within that time-frame. He said they will now be stepping up security.

The married father-of-two, from Weston Longville, said: “It is a real shame that we are having to spend such a significant sum on security, which could otherwise have been spent improving our facilities and services for customers.

“However, this is the second time in three years that we have been targeted, so we are really stepping up the security throughout the building and grounds, and have been liaising with the police as to how best to do this.”

Norfolk police are appealing for witnesses to the crime. Anyone who saw any suspicious behaviour in the area at the time or has any relevant information is asked to call PC Lee Curson at Dereham police station on 101 or Crimestoppers 0800 555 111.

  • How about investing in two or three large doberman pinschers? I'm pretty sure burglars would think twice about entering someones property with those in the yard.
