Search and rescue teams were called out after a “distressed” woman was seen on Braydon Bridge in Great Yarmouth late last night (Wednesday).
A motorist, who was driving over the bridge, spotted the woman at around 10.30pm. The driver decided to turn around to assist her but when they arrived back at the spot, the woman had disappeared.
Thinking the worst, the driver called the emergency services.
Gorleston’s inshore lifeboat Seahorse 1V along with rescue teams from Gorleston and Lowestoft and Southwold Coastguard were scrambled into action.
Coastguard teams carried out an extensive search of river banks and the surrounding areas, while the lifeboat crew scoured the water.
But after a “fruitless” search, services were called off at around 1am.
