Police in Norwich seized cannabis after officers sniffed out a drugs hub while on patrol.

Officers on patrol last night in the Southwell Road area became aware of a strong smell of cannabis coming from an address and subsequently searched a property.

Fifty-nine cannabis plants were found growing at the address along with about £800 worth of harvested plants.

A 72-year-old man interviewed at the scene and has been reported for summons for cultivating cannabis and possession with intent to supply a Class B drug.

The find comes days after officers seized 200 plants from a house in Sandy Lane on Saturday night (3 May) where a 48-year-old man was charged with producing cannabis.

Sgt Mark Shepherd, from the Norwich South Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT), said: “This is the second drugs find we’ve had this week in the neighbourhood and I hope this shows the public we will act on information.

“Illegal drug activity and associated crime and can have a detrimental impact on local communities and our targeted patrols will continue.”

Possible signs of a cannabis factory include large amounts of lighting and ventilation equipment, covered up or blocked windows, high condensation levels on windows and comings and goings to a property at all hours.

Anyone with information concerning illegal drug activity should contact police on 101 or report information anonymously to Crimestoppers anonymously on 08000 555 111.
