Jailed in Norfolk in February: London drug dealer, supermarket killer and beggar

Here is our monthly look back at some of the criminals who were jailed in Norfolk courts in February.

• One member of a gang who stole nitrous oxide canisters meant for “life saving” surgery was jailed for more than two years.

Nicholas Winter, 20, was jailed for a total of 120 weeks for burglary, dangerous driving, possession of an offensive weapon, possession of a bladed article and failing to surrender. He was also banned from driving for 164 weeks for driving without insurance or a licence, and will have to take an extended driving test to reclaim his licence.

• A burglar who targeted empty homes in North Norfolk to steal jewellery and valuables worth more than £40,000 was jailed for four years.

Gary Moore, of Cromer Road, Sheringham, admitted four counts of burglary. He also asked for 16 other offences to be taken into consideration by the court. Jailing him for four years, Judge Katharine Moore said that Moore was a “greedy” man who had made a habit of stealing to fund his lifestyle.

• A London drug dealer was jailed for 32 months after staff at a Norwich school raised concerns about his behaviour to police.

Aaron Leon, 20, of Enfield, was seen “hanging around” the school and staff called the police, who found him with a rucksack full of heroin and crack cocaine. He pleaded guilty to two counts of possession with intent to supply a Class A drug and one of assaulting a police officer.

• Two men were jailed after they went on a 12-hour crime spree in Norwich including robbing a shop at knifepoint and carrying out a late-night car-jacking in which the female driver was robbed of her keys and handbag.

Jamie McNeilly, 38, of St James Close, Norwich, admitted robbery and theft and was jailed for five years, four months and Steven Wilson, 24, of Mousehold Street, Norwich who also admitted robbery was jailed for four-and-a-half years.

• A 20-year-old who killed another man after he attacked him in a Wymondham supermarket was sentenced to 11 years detention.

Nick Rogers was assaulted by Lee Monk, 20, after they met while shopping in Morrisons. Lee Monk, 20, of Silfield Road, Wymondham, was found guilty of manslaughter in January and last month was today sentenced to 11 years in a young offenders’ institution.

• A man was jailed for eight weeks after persistently begging in Norwich.

Carl Horth, 30, of no fixed address, was charged with two counts of breaching his ASBO, two counts of criminal damage and one count of breaching a Community Protection Notice. He pleaded guilty to these offences and was sentenced to eight weeks in prison and ordered to pay £115 in compensation.
