A shoplifter was caught out by his distinctive camouflage gear, a court heard.

Francis McDonagh stole a £93 chainsaw from B and Q, in Great Yarmouth, but was soon spotted by staff because of his clothing, Norwich Crown Court heard.

Charles Falk, prosecuting, said: 'The defendant was seen on CCTV wearing very conspicuous camouflage clothing which did the opposite of what it was meant to do.'

He said that McDonagh, 25, was arrested and the chainsaw was recovered.

McDonagh of St Nicholas Road, Great Yarmouth, admitted theft and also a bail act offence when he failed to turn up for an earlier court appearance.

Jailing him for 14 weeks, Judge Katharine Moore said: 'You dressed in such a way as to draw attention to yourself, rather blend in.'
