A man has denied charges including perverting the course of justice when he appeared at Norwich Crown Court in a private prosecution brought by former Norfolk magistrate Nigel Stringer.

Anthony Munatswa, 31, of Elder Green, Gorleston, who was smartly dressed in a suit, denied perverting the course of justice between March 27, 2017 and January 5, 2018, and affray on January 14, this year.

He also denied causing actual bodily harm to Mr Stringer, on January 14, this year and causing actual bodily harm to Rowan Stringer on the same date.

Matthew McNiff appeared for the prosecution and told the court that Mr Stringer, who had sat as a magistrate for more than 20 years, had since resigned.

Ian James appeared for Munatswa.

A trial date has been fixed for March 4 next year.

Munatswa has been given conditional bail.
