The former chief constable of Norfolk Police, Phil Gormley, has reportedly been appointed as the new chief constable of Police Scotland.

Mr Gormley, who will replace Sir Stephen House in leading Police Scotland, was previously appointed Norfolk's top police officer in January 2010 but left in June 2013 for a role as deputy director general of the National Crime Agency (NCA) - an operational crime-fighting agency that tackles organised crime.

Speaking in 2013 Mr Gormley said: 'It is a real wrench to leave Norfolk Constabulary and I remain incredibly proud of the achievements of everyone who has contributed, and continues to contribute, to make it one the best performing police forces in the country.

'The release in the last few days of our crime figures for 2012/13 evidence that this is a first-class organisation performing at the top of its game.'
