A fifth man has been arrested in connection with an assault at a Norwich nightclub.
The 20-year-old man from the Great Yarmouth area was arrested last night on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm. He has subsequently been released on police bail pending further inquiries.
The arrest relates to a disturbance inside Mercy XS on Prince of Wales Road at about 1.45am on Friday during which a man suffered serious injuries.
The victim, a 20-year-old man, was hit on the side of his head, believed with a bottle, which caused an arterial bleed to the head. He has been released from the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital where he underwent surgery.
Several people were ejected from the club and police dealt with a second incident outside where a 19-year-old man was assaulted by being punched in the face. The man suffered a bloody nose and was given first aid at the scene.
The four men arrested shortly after the incident - two 20-year-olds and two other suspects aged 24 and 27 - have been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
Detectives are appealing for witnesses to come forward. Contact Det Sgt Andy Barker at Norfolk Constabulary on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
