A learner driver and the person supervising them have been arrested after they tested positive for drugs.
It happened around 9am yesterday morning, when roads policing officers stopped a car on Thunder Lane, Norwich.
Norfolk and Suffolk Roads Policing’s Sgt Chris Harris said: “They’ve done the checks on the provisional licence holder, and they conducted a drugs test and the driver’s been arrested on suspicion of drug driving.”
Sgt Harris said the passenger supervising the driver was also tested, and was also found to be under the influence and was therefore arrested on suspicion of being in charge of the vehicle while over the drug driving limit.
Both the driver and passenger were released under investigation pending the results of blood tests.
The car was also seized.
Sgt Harris said: “For us, this is one of the fatal fours - it’s one of the main four causes of fatalities in road traffic collisions. It’s easier than ever before for us to detect if people are driving with drugs in their system. Don’t drive whilst under the influence of anything - this is all about making the roads safer for everyone and it’s not just about the driver of the car it’s about the other road users and pedestrians.”
