A nurse who pleaded guilty to drink driving after being involved in a crash on her way to work has received a two year caution order.

Olivia Chippendale was approaching three and a half times the legal limit when she was involved in a collision on her way to a night shift at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital on September 27 2012, a Nursing and Midwifery Council conduct and competence committee heard.

A panel met on January 7 at the Old Bailey in London and found that the nurse’s criminal conviction was a breach of the fundamental tenets of the nursing profession and her fitness to practise was impaired by the conviction.

When breathalysed, she gave a reading of 120mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35mg.

She was disqualified from driving for 24 months at Norwich Magistrates’ Court on October 15 2012.

The committee heard that Ms Chippendale was stressed at the time of the incident and her misconduct was regarded as being “at the lower end of the spectrum.”

The panel heard that the nurse’s clinical skills had never been questioned by managers at the N&N and did not consider her actions to be fundamentally incompatible with remaining on the register.
