The man convicted of the brutal murder of his former partner Kerri McAuley is to have his appeal against sentence heard later this month, it has emerged.

Joe Storey, 27, was jailed for a minimum of 24 years in June after he was found guilty of murdering Ms McAuley following a “sustained and brutal” attack in January.

But Storey is to have an appeal against his sentence heard in London on November 29.

Steve Roberts, Ms McAuley’s uncle, said the news, which comes just as they launched a fundraising campaign in Kerri’s memory, was a real “setback”.

He said: “It’s going to be extremely difficult for Lesley. We want this monster to go away. I saw how Lesley was in launching Kerri’s Campaign.

“She had a spark in her that hasn’t been there since January 8 because it was something positive for the first time and now this, getting informed of the date (of the appeal). It’s a huge setback.”
