Mr Kennedy - who played Curly Watts in the ITV soap opera from 1983 until 2003 - is to take on the role of Captain Hook in the city venue’s Christmas production of Peter Pan.

He said: “I am so excited, baddies are much more fun to play. Captain Hook is one of the all-time great villains and I’m chomping at the bit to frighten children and adults alike - hissing and booing is food and drink to the likes of Captain Hook!”

He joins CBeebies presenter Sid Sloane, who will play the Dame in Peter Pan, and Cromer Pier favourite Ben Langley who will play the pirate Starkey. Mr Kennedy has previously been in pantomimes in Nottingham and Brighton and played the Child Catcher in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

Peter Pan is at Norwich Theatre Royal from December 18 to January 18. It is being written and directed by Richard Gauntlett who will also play Smee.

Tickets £5.50-£21. To book call the box office on 01603 630000 or visit

  • When does Mr Kennedy stop being a Coronation Street actor and become an actor whom has played a number of roles or just an actor.
