Concern over Broadland District Council’s decision to cancel meeting due to ‘insufficient business’

Ruling Conservatives have been accused of cancelling a meeting to avoid further questions over plans for the growth of Greater Norwich.
Broadland District Council has informed members its next full council meeting, scheduled for Thursday, will not take place as there is “insufficient business”.
The decision was taken after consultation between officials including Tory leader Andrew Proctor.
But opposition leader Nich Starling said his Liberal Democrat group were far from happy about the cancellation.
He said: “We had some questions we wanted to ask about issues to cabinet members and these will now have to wait until September.
“But again, following a meeting where the Tories got hot under the collar over being questioned over their handling of the JCS (joint core strategy) and their defeat in the High Court, they’ve cancelled.”

There is a great need for very many meetings to be cut short in local politics and very many more committees to be got rid of completely. They exist solely to justify the enormous sums of money that these overpaid councillors claim. But if a meeting is cut short when it should not be then the chairman deserves a telling-off in the first instance and a vote of no confidence if it happens again. So behave yourselves Tory Councillors in Broadland. You are already unpopular.

Seriously -- I'd be interested to know whether cancellation of Council meetings in this manner takes place very often. Can anyone advise?

Good thing to cancel meetings if there is no essential business. Local government wastes too much money on useless meetings, all talk and no action.

Why have EDP blocked everything since Friday on the Investigation into Murphy page, en masse. Are they trying to hide the depth of public feeling over this, so it looks better to anyone looking in from the outside, by just having a few posts and still being open for comment.

Its all very well to demand a meeting, but what is the next step? after all these parties are in a coalition Government nationally, they agree with each. Christine, Ms. Truss glib comments accusing all, Scots, the Irish Welsh and English of being lazy, to further her career, did not fit well with today's housing benefit cuts to the poorest.

Didn't the Cabinet do the very same thing last month. Would Ms McNeil like to talk us through these "high standards" she wants to maintain, as it would appear to many that the bar is set exceedingly low.

Broadland DC, as well as their colleagues on SNDC, are aloof and out of touch, to make out that the other party politicians, in lieu nationally, have anything else to offer with their cancelled questioning, is disingenuous to say the least.

Whatever tricks this council is up to it cannot discuss, or fail to discuss, "the growth of Greater Norwich." Greater Norwich is not a juridical entity - so can neither grow nor shrink.
