Friends and colleagues of a young motorcyclist killed in an accident in Norwich have continued to pay tribute to him.

Yan Cherry-Jay, who was from Rockland St Mary, was travelling back from his shift at Asda in Hellesdon when he was involved in a crash at around 8.20pm on Thursday on Magpie Road in the north of the city.

His black Aprilia motorcycle collided with a man near the traffic lights at the junction with Heath Road and the 20-year-old was found lying on the pavement outside Delhi Spice takeaway.

The pedestrian had a damaged shoulder but was not seriously injured.

However, paramedics could not save Mr Cherry-Jay. Flowers and tributes have been left at the scene and friends and colleagues at Asda in Hellesdon, where he worked, paid tribute to him over the weekend.

Michelle Smith said: “He was a great friend and confidant.

“If you had a problem he was always there with a shoulder to cry on.

“He will be greatly missed by many – too young to die.”

Judy Cook said: “Yan had a heart as big as the Monster drinks he loved and a smile that would make everybody else smile with him – a special guy who will be very much missed by his friends at Asda.”

Another friend wrote: “I don’t think there was anyone who didn’t like him. He was a good person and will be missed.”

Police are appealing for witnesses to Thursday night’s crash. If you have any information or witnessed the incident contact Norfolk Constabulary’s Serious Collision Investigation Team on 101.
