COASTGUARDS have warned people not to use inflatables and dinghys on Norfolk and Suffolk beaches today (Sunday) due to a strong offshore wind.
Winds for today are forecast to be blowing from the beaches out to sea and Yarmouth Coastguard has said the conditions present “extreme dangers” to anyone thinking of going for a paddle with an inflatable, toy or dinghy.
In a statement the station said: “These will be picked up by the wind and they, and occupants, will be quickly blown out to sea and into deep, choppy, cold water where they will probably overturn.”
Visitors to the region’s coastline are also being asked not to take such equipment with them as an unoccupied inflatable, blown from the beach will have to be investigated by the emergency services and could spark an unnecessary rescue.
An offshore wind is also blowing off the Lincolnshire and visitors to beaches further up the coast are being issued the same warning.
