A 15 carat gold medal presented to one of Norwich City's most outstanding managers sold for £1,625 at an auction.
Archie Macaulay – the Canaries' manager between April 1957 and October 1961 – received the medal after helping Arsenal win the 1948 Football Association Charity Shield.
Before the auction, at Bonhams in Chester, the medal had been expected to sell for between £800 and £1,000. Just moments before the sale of Mr Macaulay's medal, a rare, signed collection of 1992-1993 Premier League shirts – including a Norwich City Ribero short-sleeved shirt – sold for £18,750 at the same auction.
