Dozens of colourful floats and will trawl through the city’s streets from 5pm on Saturday, July 5, which will help raise thousands of pounds for charity.

A total of 51 floats and performing groups from across Norfolk and Norwich will take part in the annual event, which is the centrepiece of the Lord Mayor’s Celebration, which includes a packed programme of activities from Thursday, July 3 to Sunday, July 6.

All proceeds from the historic parade will go to this year’s civic charity Cruse bereavement, which was selected by the Lord Mayor of Norwich, Judith Lubbock.

The four day festival will be kicked off by a charity fashion show by students at Norwich School on July 3. Part of the Young Norfolk Arts Festival, the night of high fashion and great music is being staged at Open.

Brenda Arthur, leader of Norwich City Council and cabinet member for culture and sport, said: “Norwich feels like it is alive with incredible events all the time and the Lord Mayor’s Celebration is one of my real favourites. Not only are the events of the highest quality, they are also free, which is so important these days. I would urge everyone to come along and join in the fun because there really is something for all ages to enjoy.”

This year’s other highlights include:

• Crude Apache Theatre open-air shows at Heigham Park on Friday, July 4 from 7.30pm to 9pm and Castle Gardens on Sunday 3pm to 4.30pm.

• Forum Stage, Millennium Plain, Saturday noon to 4.30pm and 6pm to 10.15pm.

• Street theatre in the city, on Saturday 1pm to 4pm and 6pm to 10pm.

• Lord Mayor’s 5km Road Race, from Agricultural Hall Plain, on Saturday, July 5 4.50pm.

• Fireworks display from Norwich Castle, Saturday 5 July at 10.30pm.
