Children inspired by this year’s Norfolk and Norwich Festival can gain a cultural qualification while also having fun watching the array of acts and entertainment.

At The Garden Party in Chapelfield Gardens on Saturday, May 17 and Sunday, May 18, children aged five and above can complete an Arts Award Discover certificate by recording their experiences of artists and performances.

Arts Award Discover is the first level of the national Arts Award programme which aims to encourage children and young people to build up their knowledge and understanding of the arts.

Sarah Owen, Norfolk and Norwich Festival’s director of development, said: “Our festival team is delighted to offer children the chance to think about and record their reactions and experiences of this year’s Garden Party. We hope Discover the Garden Party will lead to the festival offering many more Arts Award focused activities in the future.”

Emily Ward, Norfolk and Norwich Festival Bridge’s Arts Award and Artsmark programme manager, said: “We want to really encourage parents and carers to bring their children along to the Garden Party to take part in Arts Award Discover. It gives children the chance to truly engage with the range of exciting experiences available at the Festival and brings valuable recognition for their efforts.”

The Arts Award Discover at The Garden Party is aimed at five to 10-year-olds.

Parents and carers will be able to collect Arts Award Discover activity guides from the Arts Award information point in Chapelfield Gardens on Saturday, May 17 from 11am to 6pm and Sunday, May 18 from 11am to 5pm.

Once children have completed their activity guides they should be handed to the Arts Award information point at The Garden Party where they will be given a festival certificate to take home. The activity guide will then be forwarded to Trinity College, London, for validation before an Arts Award Discover certificate is sent out.
