A unique display of church robes and ceremonial objects will be staged at Tunstead this weekend.

The collection comes from across the Worstead Group of Parishes and it will be the first time all the objects have been exhibited together.

As well as more than 20 sets of vestments used for routine and special occasions, the flower-decorated church will also showcase medieval objects used by the clergy when celebrating the Mass including a silver paten from Worstead dated to around 1500.

There will be talks and organ recitals by the various organists who play in the group including classical composer Patrick Hawes.

The exhibition is aiming to raise money for the whole of the Worstead group of parishes.

Father Anthony Long, priest for the group, said: “It promises to be a wonderful occasion with beautiful objects surrounded by beautiful flowers and is a real coming together of our community.

“The exhibition will give visitors a unique opportunity to see how and why these vestments and other objects are used in sacred ceremonies, their visual impact and symbolism.”

It runs from Friday to Sunday, July 18-20 at St Mary’s Church, Tunstead from 10am to 5pm daily.

Admission is £3 including a programme. Ploughman’s lunches, sandwiches and refreshments will also be available.
