More than 1,300 people donned their wellington boots and sun hats for the event, which was held for the third time as part of a national Open Farm Day.

Families were able to go on walks, explore the farm machinery and tour the free range egg unit - where they could help David and Julie Barber, farm owners, sort out the eggs from the farm's 16,000 hens.

A hog roast and home-made tea and cakes at the Hen House cafe offered a chance to rest sore feet and refuel.

Annabel Barber, daughter and the brains behind the Hen House, said: 'It was a brilliant day, we couldn't believe how many people came, some even brought their whole family along.

'The view down our usually empty farm lane packed with visitors from all over Norfolk was quite a sight.

'All the weeks of hard work leading up to last weekend finally seemed worthwhile, but it wouldn't have been possible without the help of great friends and family, who were doing anything from serving teas to giving out shoe hygiene covers for the free range egg tours.'

Miss Barber added that the family - who have run the farm since the 1960s - hope to host another event soon.
