But 13-month-old German Shepherd Roxi hasn’t quite made the grade to be a police dog due to her small stature, and is now in need of a loving home.

Roxi arrived at the Norfolk police headquarters in Wymondham when she was eight months old after her owners decided they couldn’t keep her.

Although she was given police dog training, it became apparent that Roxi was too small for a career in the force.

Sergeant Louisa Foulds, who looks after Roxi, said: “She had basic training, she sits well and comes when called. She probably would have made a good police dog but is just too small - she’s the same size as she was at eight months!”

Although Roxi loves people, after not spending much time with other dogs as a puppy she now has a rocky relationship with her canine friends.

Sergeant Foulds said: “She is the most adorable little dog, so sweet, but she is quite nervous with other dogs and quite protective of herself.

“There is a possibility that if someone had the time she might improve with dogs but we really need to find someone with the understanding that she might not.”

Playful Roxi doesn’t need “excessive” amounts of exercise, but is happy to go on walks as often as she can.

Although she is mainly German Shepherd in breed, the force believes Roxi has a mix of English bull terrier and greyhound due to her slim build.

“She needs a quiet and calm home where people are willing to put the time in to her. She’s the perfect little dog,” Sergeant Foulds added.
