Organisers of Swaffham’s newly-established Friday evening market have appealed for more stall holders selling local produce to come to the next event.

Visitors praised the first evening market, held on Friday August 17, for bringing a continental atmosphere to the town centre on a warm summer evening.

The second market will be held between 6pm to 9pm on Friday September 14 to coincide with the three-day Brecks Food and Drink Festival, which is also being held in Swaffham.

Market committee chairman Sheila Lister said a meeting would be held on Wednesday September 5 to iron out traffic problems and improve signage, and she hoped to see 40 stalls at the next event.

She said: “It brought a lot of people into our beautiful market place. We are trying to promote Swaffham as a forward-thinking town and I think we did a really good job.

“What I would really like is local produce. We want to promote what wonderful vegetables we have.”

For more information about the market and to book a stall contact Swaffham Town Hall on 01760 722922.

  • I hope that "iron out traffic problems and improve signage" are separate meeting items. The answer to the traffic problem is simple - don't close the road, put the stalls somewhere that isn't a road, e.g. near the war memorial.
