A global company which has kept more than 100 East Anglian workers in limbo over their jobs for more than two months has topped a list of Britain's most admired firms.

Consumer goods giant Unilever – owner of Colman's Mustard – moved up one place on last year to take the top spot in the rankings, calculated by Management Today.

Since October, 113 workers at its Norwich factory have been fearing for their jobs after Unilever said it was reviewing its future at the site because of neighbour Britvic's decision to close its bottling plant.

Britvic is also included in the list, in 75th position, having moved up from 107th last year, despite its decision to put 242 jobs at risk in Norwich in the search for savings.

The list is dominated by corporates and multinationals, but among the other entries with East Anglian presences are British Sugar owner Associated British Foods (28), Cranswick (80), Aviva (=117), BT (138), Greene King (180), 2 Sisters Food Group (225) and KCom (231).

The list is compiled by asking Britain's largest public companies in 24 sectors to evaluate their peers using 12 measures of success, including quality of management, community responsibility, financial soundness and value as a long-term investment.
