Customers left hundreds of pounds out of pocket by a Norwich shop selling discounted white goods say they are at a loss about what to do.
This newspaper has spoken to seven people since Monday who all say they were sold faulty goods by NR1 Appliances on Hall Road but have not received their money back.
Despite repeated attempts to get hold of the man they say was running the shop, James Harrison, they said they were given excuse after excuse for months and have now not heard anything for weeks.
Emma Murphy, 31, from Norwich, bought a fridge-freezer last November for £350 from the discount store. When it arrived in December she said it was rusty, dirty and smelt.
'I was told it was reconditioned but it was covered in rust to the point where I was advised by an electrician not to use it,' she said.
Since December she has been trying to contact NR1 Appliances and she said she had been told it would be collected and she would get a refund - but that has not happened.
She also contacted her bank to see if she could get her money bank but they could not help as she had paid by bank transfer.
'I am now £350 out of pocket with a fridge-freezer that is completely useless,' she said.
Demi Kelly, 25, from Gresham, bought a fridge-freezer in March for £189. She said the freezer worked fine but the fridge was broken.
'We rang and rang, he said he was short staffed and in hospital,' she said. 'Eventually we stopped hearing anything. We then got a call saying he was really sorry. He arranged for someone to collect it but no-one turned up.'
Another customer, Mahmood from Norwich, bought a cooker, washing machine and fridge for his sister's council house, spending £450 in April.
But the washing machine did not drain and the fridge was in a bad condition with old food still inside it, Mahmood said.
They have not heard from him for weeks. 'I was just trying to help my sister,' he said. 'I wanted to save some money.'
Mel Burgess, 28, from Spixworth, said she and her partner spent £550 on a fridge-freezer and washing machine in January. The fridge-freezer, costing £350 doesn't work. 'Angry is an understatement,' she said.
This newspaper tried to put the customers' complaints to NR1 Appliances but we are yet to receive a response.
•Anyone affected should contact Citizens Advice Consumer Service on 0345 4040506 and say they are calling about NR1 Appliances.
