A Great Yarmouth energy firm has been awarded a new contract to work on a £1bn windfarm off the north Norfolk coast.
3sun Group will provide inspections and engineering support for Sirca Offshore Energy, which operates more than 80 turbines and three substations at the Sheringham Shoal offshore windfarm.
The undisclosed deal comes just weeks after 3sun Group announced it would be creating 12 new jobs during the launch of its new £500,000 headquarters in Yarmouth.
Graham Hacon, managing director of 3sun Group, said: “Securing this contract from Scira is great news and sees us ending a very strong year on a high.
“We look forward to commencing the work and strengthening our relationship with Scira by providing our well-qualified technicians, our high quality service and to completing the contract to schedule.
“I am delighted that Scira has chosen 3sun Group, a local company, and are honouring the local supply chain in this way.
“We recently launched our new, larger Great Yarmouth headquarters, following a £500,000 investment, and have pledged to continue to support the local economy and employment in the region.”
3sun group saw its turnover increase from £2.4m in 2010 to £6.5m in 2011, while achieving almost £12m in 2012. It will provide an inspection service for 88 wind turbines, two offshore substations and the onshore substation at Salle near Cawston.
It will also carry out general engineering services for design, production of engineering documentation, fabrication, painting, mechanical and electrical installation and retrofit works.
Scira’s general manager Einar Strømsvåg said: “Now that the construction of the Sheringham Shoal wind farm is complete, and Scira assume full responsibility for the operation and maintenance of the plant, we need to ensure that we have a supply chain which can support the technical integrity of our wind farm.
“3sun Group is a locally-based company with a high level of competence and expertise, and a strong focus on providing local employment opportunities.”
3sun Group employs more than 175 staff on and offshore and has worked on energy projects in the UK, Malta, Tunisia, Ghana, Singapore and Angola.
