Hundreds of students arrived in Norfolk today to try their hands at challenges based on real-life jobs in the energy industry in a bid to promote the wide range of energy career options open to them.

The event at the John Innes Conference Centre in the Norwich Research Park, was organised by industry skills body OPITO, Energise Your Future.

About 30 local, national and international energy, engineering companies and training centre took part in the one-day showcase.

Exhibitors included AMEC, Perenco, Seajacks and Aquaterra Energy. Students aged 15 to 19 saw practical demonstrations of oil and gas extraction, innovative underwater cameras and imaging systems and a working wind turbine.

Liz Davis Smith, OPITO’s regional manager said she was absolutely delighted by the commitment shown by the region’s energy industry and participating schools and colleges.
