The boss of a Norfolk firm of independent financial advisers has flown Down Under to volunteer at the Commonwealth Games.

Carl Lamb, managing director of Almary Green Investments in Norwich, is a regular visitor to Australia and put his name forward to be a helper at the Gold Coast 2018 games, which start on Wednesday.

With an armed forces background – he served as a fighter controller in the RAF before moving into financial services – Mr Lamb was selected for the team responsible for security in the athletes’ village.

“I’m thrilled to be here at such a special event”, he said. “The atmosphere in the athletes’ village is amazing and the excitement is building. This was on my ‘bucket list’ and I’m hugely proud to have been asked to volunteer out here in Australia.”

Almary Green Investments is based in the Meridian Business Park outside Norwich.

The Commonwealth Games sees over 6,600 athletes and team officials in attendance at the Gold Coast venue over eleven days of sporting competition from April 4 to 15.
