Maids Head hotel in Norwich bought by family business

19:50 18 December 2012

Maids Head Hotel, Norwich.

Maids Head Hotel, Norwich.

A historic Norwich hotel has returned to private ownership after being bought by a family business.

The Maids Head Hotel in Tombland was previously owned by the Vineyard Group, a hotel management company.

But it was announced yesterday that the Chaplin family, who owns the four-star Gonville hotel in Cambridge, have bought the 13th century hotel.

Chairman David Chaplin said: “Our family has many connections with the area so it is very exciting to have brought this Norwich icon back into private ownership.”

The current general manager Christine Malcolm will remain at the hotel, as will all other staff.

  • I paid £4:95 for a pint of Cider on Saturday night and £7:00 for a large wine. Hope the new owners take a look at the rip off prices the previous owners were charging and amend accordingly. Absolutely no need for this form of legal robbery

  • There are only 3 large measures(250ml) in a wine bottle. £ 21 for a half-decent wine is not unreasonable. They do supply tap water for nothing.
