Following a two-month review, Jeyes has now started a 90-day consultation over plans to move production and axe 108 positions in East Kilbride.

Nicholas Goodwin, chief returning officer for Jeyes Group, said: “Over the past two months, we have conducted a review to ensure our business is profitable and sustainable for the future in very difficult global trading conditions.

“The review suggests that the East Kilbride facility does not appear to be the most cost effective location for the future supply of our products.

“We are therefore considering transferring manufacturing toilet blocks to our site at Thetford in Norfolk.”

The company said that at this stage it was unable to say how many new jobs could be created in Norfolk.

It said in a statement, Jeyes said: “Once the 90-day consultation is complete Jeyes will be in a better position to comment on what a decision about East Kilbride means for Norfolk, if anything.”
