Seven staff at Jarrold have been made redundant following a review of the business.

The firm said the changes were in response to looming challenges likely to face the retail sector in the year ahead.

It was unable to give details of which posts were lost, but said they were across a variety of roles.

A Jarrold spokesman said: “Jarrold Retail currently employ over 400 people. We have recently undertaken a review to ensure the shape of our business is such that it recognises and addresses the challenges in retail we expect to encounter in 2014.”

  • I too have had poor service from Jarrold in Norwich. Repeated times too I might add. I won't be going back to them. They seriously need to get their act together and modernise both the store and service.

  • Jarrolds is a great store and has done some incredible things to improve and enhance the layout and range of products. It is my store of choice in Norwich, support the independent store. But I have to say your sales staff need a kick up the backside! On several occasions i have been to buy something, decision made I want to make a purchase, but the sales counter people are busy talking to each other and not prepared to interupt their chat to help. I recently purchased some men's fragrance, knew exactly what I wanted, wandered around the new layout of the wonderfully extensive fragrance area while 2 assistants talked intently to each other. After the 5th time of circling the area, looking very purposely for what I wanted, I went and asked for assistance. I was waived over to the general direction of what I wanted while the sales assistants carried on their chat. No help, no offer to try, no friendly smile, no reccommendation, I felt that I was a nuisance for interupting them!
