An iconic Suffolk tourist attraction will be joining forces over the summer with a legend from the world of fashion.
Zandra Rhodes will be making a public apperance at Southwold Pier on Saturday to launch her Zandra on the Pier collection in the Seaweed and Salt boutique.
The range will include handbags as well as iPhone covers and a collection of Zandra’s limited edition jewellery, giving visitors to the pier the opportunity to buy pieces which will become collectors’ items. There will also be three of Zandra’s books available to buy – The Art of Zandra Rhodes, A Lifelong Love Affair with Textiles and Zandra Rhodes, Textile Revolution: Medals Wiggles and Pop 1961-1971.
She will be signing the lining of her handbags, as well as doing a book signing from 11am.
She said: “I cannot think of a better place to have a collection than on Southwold Pier – it has just the right amount of quirkiness and is perfect for a great British day out. It’s also one of the most magnificent piers in Britain.”
Robert Gough, who bought the pier in March last year from Stephen Bournes for a rumoured £6m, said: “Zandra is the perfect fit for our pier, and her collection will be hugely popular with our visitors - intriguing, exciting, wonderfully colourful and of course curiously British.”
Alongside the Zandra Rhodes collection will be handpicked items from a range of top lifestyle brands, including Sam Ubhi, Adele Marie and Big Metal.
The pier was bought with planning permission to knock down the front building and reinstate it as a 30-bedroom hotel, a project that is still in the early stages of development.
