Singers, dancers and other performers were out to impress when scouts for TV show Britain’s Got Talent paid a visit to Norwich.

A production company set up a tent at the Morrisons supermarket in Riverside today to audition people for the popular TV talent show.

And there were plenty of people - young and old - who joined the queue for the chance to be filmed by the BGT cameras.

They were hoping for the chance to perform in front of celebrity judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and David Walliams in the new year.

Among those who joined the queue was Alexis Bale, 12, from Eaton, along with her mum Richelle. Alexis was hoping to wow the judges with her rendition of Stay by Rihanna.

The City Academy youngster said she wasn’t nervous, having enjoyed singing and dancing ever since she was little.

Her mum said: “She’s always liked singing at home, but when she does it in public it’s completely different. She’s at City Academy and when they had a Britain’s Got Talent competition there, she won it. I was thinking, ‘is that really my daughter?’”

Cassie Jane, 18, from Catton, was tight-lipped about the song she was going to perform. But having already taken part in auditions for The X-Factor and The Voice, she said she felt no nerves.

Mum Tricia Frances was a professional singer and Cassie, who went to the drama school at the Theatre Royal, said performing had been a natural part of growing up.

She said: “It’s my birthday next week. so it would be a nice birthday present to get through to the next round.”

In recent years several Norfolk performers have made it to the televised stages of the competition, with Poringland singer Ronan Parke finishing as runner-up in 2011 and Spixworth singer-songwriter Sam Kelly also reaching the final in 2012.
