A group of Norfolk students met up with UK boxer Carl Froch at his training camp in Sheffield.

The students, who are members of the boxing academy at the Easton campus of Easton and Otley College, met Froch as he prepared for his second super-middleweight bout with Londoner George Groves.

The Froch versus Groves title fight is one of the most hotly-anticipated rematches since the days of Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank.

During the visit, students asked Froch about his training regime.

He told them he was confident of being successful against Groves in a fight that will be taking place on May 31 at Wembley Stadium.

Jon Dennis, boxing academy lead coach at Easton and Otley College, helped to arrange the visit.

He said: “The fact that they got to speak with Carl Froch, ask him
questions and see him train was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”

The boxing academy was launched last September and students have already met well-known boxers Jon Thaxton, Anthony Ogogo and Jackson Williams.

Student Ben Whitworth, who is studying the level three extended diploma, said, “Visiting the boxing camp was an amazing experience.

“I have always been a fan of Carl and so meeting him was very inspirational.

“When you have a chance to meet one of your idols, there is always a fear that they might not have the time to give you, but Carl was very much the opposite.

“He came out of his way during his training session to speak to us all, and the thing that struck me the most was how he encouraged us to never stop trying.

“He also said that success is – and continues to be – defined by getting up one more time, even when you’ve been knocked down. The whole experience has given me that extra motivation to get the best I can out of boxing, and the boxing academy is helping by giving me the opportunities to go to such places and meet people of that standard.”
