The new-look Yarmouth Road post office in Thorpe St Andrew has been officially opened after being refurbished as part of plans to modernise the network and extend opening hours for customers.
Customers will also benefit from the addition of car tax renewal to the wide range of post office services available.
The post office was opened by Norwich North MP Chloe Smith and Thorpe St Andrew Town Mayor John Ward.
The MP said: “I welcomed the news that Yarmouth Road Post Office was to be refurbished to create a modern retail environment, with the convenient addition of the car tax renewal service.
“The post office is vital to the community around Yarmouth Road and I’m sure the new improved office will be warmly welcomed by all of my constituents.”
Mr Ward added: “The modernised branch looks really good and the longer opening hours are more convenient for local people. It’s a real boost for the community.”
Post office operator Vijay Dhalla said the reaction from customers walking through the door was “wow”.
He added: “The branch looks really modern. Opening hours have been extended to allow the same opening hours from Monday to Saturday to make it easier for customers to remember.”
Gary Herbert, Post Office senior stakeholder manager, said the modernisation was part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office.
“It marks a commitment to halting branch closure programmes,” he said.
The government has committed £1.34bn for the Post Office network to make sure there is no programme of post office closures and to update branches.
Nationwide, the investment programme will see up to 8,000 branches modernised with additional investment in over 3,000 community and outreach branches.
The opening hours are Monday to Saturday from 8am to 6pm, which offers customers slightly later closing on weekdays.
