Kathleen Porter, of Hemsby, celebrating her 100th birthday

A former bar manager has celebrated her 100th birthday surrounded by family and friends.

Kathleen Porter, who lives with her son in Hemsby, marked the milestone on Sunday.

Born at the family home in Dow Hill, Ormesby, in 1914, Kathleen Rhoda Knights lived in the village until her teenage years. She then moved to Hemsby where she went to school and has lived ever since.

Once old enough she started working as a barmaid at The Bell pub. At 21, Kathleen married George Porter and the couple had two sons, Anthony and Fuller.

Kathleen then moved on to managing the bar at Maddison’s Holiday Camp in Hemsby - a job she did for 21 summer seasons.

Describing her great granddaughter as an independent woman, Sheena Nicholls said: “Over the years Kathleen’s family has grown and we all really lucky to have her still with us so her great great grandchildren get to know and love her like we have.

“She is a much loved mother to Anthony and Fuller, grandmother to Phillip, Dean and Del, great grandmother to David, Sheena, Esme, Ben, Dannielle, Dempsey, Georgia, Ellie and great great grandmother to Velise, Lyvinia, Alaya and Darcie.”
