The first theft happened at the back of an address on Wodehouse Street, off Silver Road, between 11.30pm on Saturday and 8.45am on Sunday.

A Kawasaki motorbike was stolen from a garden after a gate had been forced, but was found abandoned in a nearby alleyway with damage to its trip computer, wing mirror and steering rack.

The second theft happened between 3am and 3.30am on Sunday, when a moped was taken from outside a home in Gertrude Road.

The moped was also found dumped in a nearby alleyway, which leads to Dibden Road, with substantial damage to its bodywork around the steering lock and ignition.

Police are now encouraging bikers to take steps, such as:

- Get a security device, use it and make sure you keep your keys with you.

- Always put the steering lock on.

- Try to use a designated motorcycle parking place with a stand and security loop. If you have a garage, fit strong locks and invest in a ground anchor.

- Mark the main areas of the motorcycle with either the registration number or your postcode, and keep a record of what you have marked.

- Purchase a good immobilizer, preferably one that is approved by your insurance company and is either Thatcham or Sold Secure approved.

- Cover your motorcycle if at all possible.

- Do not leave items such as helmets or other possessions with your bike.

- Register your vehicle at www.immobilise.com

Anyone with information about the attempted thefts should call PC Craig Bidwell at Hurricane Way Police Station on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
