A decade of the refectory at Norwich Cathedral will be marked next month with people who enjoy baking invited to dish up a tasty treat to help celebrate.
The cathedral’s refectory was built on the site of the original monk’s dining hall, and officially opened on April 2, 2004.
Ten years on, and one of the celebratory events will see Michelin- starred chef Galton Blackiston judge the finalists in a bake-off competition.
Mr Blackiston will judge the final of the bake-off competition on Tuesday, April 22 when 10 finalists will be competing for the title of Refectory bake-off winner.
Members of the public are invited to email their cake recipes to the refectory by April 1.
They can be anything from a Victoria sponge to a cupcake, but the judges will be looking for a special or creative twist.
The event on April 22 will start at 3pm and Galton will also be giving a talk on his experiences as a top chef. Entry will be free and tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
The winner will see their recipe produced for sale in the Refectory throughout May and will also win a lunch for two,
Another event taking place as part of the anniversary celebrations is a free cake day on Tuesday, April 1 when visitors to the refectory can enjoy some free cake between 3pm and 4.30pm.
