Tiny Talk teacher Maria Holloway has been shortlisted for a national award

Maria Holloway has been teaching little ones in Norfolk to communicate through sign language for the last decade.

And her hard work and enthusiasm has seen her make the finals of this year’s What’s On 4 Juniors Awards.

Mrs Holloway, who owns a TinyTalk baby and toddler signing franchise, runs classes in Norwich, Wymondham and Attleborough and is a finalist for the Most outstanding activity leader in the East.

TinyTalk aims to help babies and toddlers with early communication through the use of British Sign Language.

Classes mix sign language, songs, stories and sensory play - and offer parents the chance to socialise over refreshments.

“This is a real testament to how fun and professional our TinyTalk baby signing classes are,” she said.

“The mums and dads who come to my classes tell me time and time again how much the classes mean to them and how much their little ones develop in both language, confidence and happiness.”

The What’s On 4 Juniors Awards celebrate the best childrens activity providers in the UK, Ireland and Australia.

This year will be the eighth annual awards, in association with Drayton Manor Hotel and Theme Park, where the ceremony will take place on June 20.

Mrs Holloway, who has three children, said: “Baby Signing with my child was really useful to identify his needs quickly; his first sign at seven months was milk, quickly followed by more. But what I think was really great was knowing what he found interesting, he could tell me when he saw a bird, an aeroplane or even the moon on a sunny day, he would notice things us adults often took for granted, it was a window into his mind.”

The company TinyTalk has also made the finals of the awards - for Best national baby and toddler development activity newborn - two years and Best national pre-schooler development activity - two to five years.
