More than 200 people gathered in Aylsham High School’s hall to see a cheque for £2,500 handed over to Marie Curie Cancer Care.

The cash was raised by members of Aylsham and District Flower Club during their past year of charity fund-raising.

The club fills an Aylsham Show marquee with floral displays every year and visitors give donations to show their appreciation.

The arrangements are auctioned at the end of the event to boost the appeal.

Money is also raised for the cause on the preview Sunday before the August bank
holiday Monday show when the club hosts a hog roast.

Club members have been staging the event for more than 25 years and during that time they have raised £40,000-plus for a range of charities.

The theme of their displays at last year’s show was A Feast of Flowers and this summer it will be Journeys.

And the club has chosen to support Nelson’s Journey as its next charity.

The cheque presentation was part of an annual open meeting day arranged by the club which includes a speaker in the morning, lunch, and an afternoon presentation by a national flower demonstrator.
